Khelira, a top-of-her-class mortal with a relentless desire for control, has a perfect plan for a simple life: become her impoverished village’s next healer, provide for her elderly parents, and avoid the malicious immortals that dwell beyond the wards. However, when Khelira discovers that she’s a descendant of mixed magical genealogies—known as “crossed”—an existence punishable by death, her meticulous plans come crashing down. Khelira is forced from the familiar life she knows when her parents are arrested and set for execution.
 

Running from Realm Guardians with a bounty on her head, Khelira inadvertently falls through a faerie ring that magically transports her beyond the wards and into the perilous hands of Henosia’s most wanted—and attractive—criminal, Savaryth, an Alf with powerful air magic. Determined to return to safety within the wards and save her parents’ lives, she faces a treacherous journey, teeming with magic that could mean certain death. With a false promise of riches, Khelira convinces Savaryth’s group of criminals to provide safe passage back to the human realm, where she plans to trade them for her parents’ freedom—and her own life.
 

Along the way, Khelira’s obsessive need for control is strained as Savaryth and his band of misfits have an affinity for finding trouble at every turn. They challenge her limited knowledge of magic and crack her moral foundation as she learns the insidious lies and secrets of Henosia.

Tension between realms increases as bitter feuds threaten to solidify the division among the realms. With power and politics at play, Khelira must leave her ideal life behind if she’s going to put an end to the unchecked reign of power in hopes of mending the division between the realms… or even survive the journey home.
